MYANMAR – Ms. Zin Mar Aung, the Union Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, proclaimed that the neighbouring country, China, is looking at the face of Nay Pyi Taw (the junta council) rather than the faces of the Burmese people.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs expounded that the neighbouring countries, including China, need to understand more than ever that the coup council is not the answer. The transnational-crimes and the criminal cases have increased under the coup council. Those issues are no longer just domestic issues but are threats to regional stability.
The minister Zin Mar Aung declared at the Press Conference by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of NUG (National Unity Government) on January 29 that “I would like to answer frankly that It seems like China is looking at the face of Nay Pyi Taw (the coup council) rather than the face of the Burmese people.”
The Foreign Minister appraised that in the process of communication with the National Unity Government, the neighbouring countries, especially China, are making decisions on Myanmar’s issues based on the information that do not reflect the actual situations and also against the actual wishes of the Myanmar people.
She continued that “therefore we are increasing efforts on engagements and communication with them (the neighbouring countries), even though it is one-sided.”
The minister added that moreover, China is acting inconsistently in approaching Myanmar’s issues.
H.E. Zin Mar Aung mentioned that “it was showing that they (China) don’t know how to handle Myanmar’s issues. They don’t seem to like the military leaders.”
The minister mentioned that we need to try to get the realistic and right way of thinking from China. Our revolutionary forces need to try to establish a political system and a federal system which can protect China’s interests in the long-term.
H.E. Zin Mar Aung also mentioned that “in addition to the political messages that we are bringing stability in the region, we need to try to bring stability on the ground. Only if we can practically perform this, we could change China’s approach and views on Myanmar’s issues a little. I would like to answer that It will be a huge challenge.”
Mr. Zaw Moe Oo, the Prime Minister of Foreign Affairs of NUG also mentioned at the Press conference that, “NUG will engage more with the neighbouring countries and the countries in the region in 2025. We are always ready to cooperate with international communities.”
