AYEYARWADDY DIVISION: The plantations of green grams farmers were ordered to destroy their plantations by the order of Agricultural Ministry in Zalon township came, Ayeyarwaddy division. They were ordered to grow sunflowers. Those who have not grown the sunflowers are threatened to be taken action, reported by the local civilians.
Since December, the staff from Agricultural Department and Cooperative Department , under the atrocious junta’s army in Zalon, have ordered to destroy all the plantations of green grams by the order of minister. The farmers are forced to grow sunflowers.
Moreover, the farmers who have not grown sunflowers were threatened to be taken action after being taken to Agricultural Department and Cooperative Department.
Currently, the farmers have lost the expenses of growing and the grain products as they destroyed the green grams plantations which have been already grown. Moreover, the expenses for growing sunflowers are also not given by the ministry. They are experiencing several losses.
“In Zalon, the Agricultural department and Cooperative department had ordered to destroy the plantations grown green grams and to replant sunflowers. The farmers not only destroyed grown plantations but also used the expenses of plantations. The farmers especially near the main roads experienced the similar problems as the plantations are on the way of the officers’ checkpoints. The owners of the plantations were taken to the offices and to be ordered so. Moreover, the farmers were told to be taken actions by releasing the announcement. The farmers were afraid of the consequences so they had to destroy the green grams plantations which started blooming and regrow sunflowers. The profits of growing green grams along with the preparation expenses such as pesticides and clean good seeds were also lost. The staff who didn’t join the civil disobedience movement are threatening the farmers,” reported by a local civilian.
