CHINA – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of China announced that the Kokang MNDAA, which has already occupied several cities in northern Shan State, including Lashio, has signed a ceasefire agreement.
It is reported that battles near the border areas have ceased following the announcement by the Chinese MFA regarding the official signing of the ceasefire agreement between the junta military and the MNDAA on January 18.
According to a spokesperson from the Chinese MFA during a regular press conference, the two parties held discussions and finalized the agreement in Kunming, China. The spokesperson emphasized that stability in northern Shan State serves the shared interests of the people living in Myanmar. This agreement is expected to enhance the security, stability, and development of the border regions between Myanmar and China.
China also reaffirmed its active participation in peace dialogues and its continued support for the peace process in northern Myanmar.
As of the recent developments, the MNDAA reportedly controls Lashio, Laukkai, and the entire northern Shan State, having completely occupied the northern regional military command.
