SHAN STATE – Revolutionary joint forces including the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) have captured around half of Sibaw Town in northern Shan State on August 10, according to residents.
Battles broke out between the revolutionary forces and the junta council troops on August 10 morning and by 11 a.m., Sibaw Prison was unlocked and the detained prisoners were released.
“Two gold shop owners were reported arrested. I don’t know why. The prison is reportedly opened. It was very loud on the phone call. Noodle shops were also destroyed by artillery,” said a Sibaw resident.
It is still being investigated if there were any civilian casualties but it has been reported that most civilians were taking shelter at Naungkat Monastery.
Although SSPP troops were also stationed in Sibaw, residents say they moved out when the revolutionary forces entered the town.
It is said that TNLA, Danu People’s Liberation Force (DPLF), Mandalay People’s Defence Force and multiple local defence forces are taking part in the battle in Sibaw.
