MYANMAR – The US government has officially announced that President Trump has ordered the suspension of $45 million in scholarships for Myanmar students.
The previous Biden administration, awarded the $45 million worth “Diversity and Inclusiveness Scholarship Program” for students from Myanmar, under its Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Accessibility policies. President Trump has immediately suspended all scholarships.
The scholarship program is a series of scholarships that the U.S. government has been providing since 2024 to support the development and human resources of Myanmar since the military coup. The scholarships are managed by USAID and the U.S. Embassy in Yangon.
The Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, was the lead agency in halting the scholarship program. The Department of Government Efficiency has officially announced that it will suspend $45 million worth of scholarships awarded to Burmese students, since January 15.
