MYANMAR – The Ministry of Defence (MoD) of National Unity Government (NUG) has officially issued an official report on January 4 that over 14,000 terrorist junta soldiers were killed in 2024, including 53 generals, brigadier generals and colonels were killed, injured and captured, in the ongoing revolutionary battles to overthrow the military dictatorship across Myanmar.
From January to December 29, 2024, 315 military officers were killed and 127 were wounded in attacks by the People’s Defence Force-PDF, People’s Defence Organization – PDO, Ethnic Revolutionary Organizations (EROs) and various local defense forces, for a total of 442 military officers killed and wounded. At least 53 generals, brigadier Generals and colonels were also killed, wounded, and captured as prisoners of war.
In the fighting across the country, a total of 14,093 terrorist junta forces, police forces and border guard forces were killed, while 7,363 were injured, a total of 21,456, equivalent to more than 10 Light Infantry Divisions.
The Revolutionary Forces attacked and captured 741 military bases across the country. The atrocious junta had to relinquish two Regional Military Commands, one Regional Operations Command, five Military Operations Commands, six Tactical Operation Commands, two air force bases, 86 combat rear bases, 54 non-combat bases, and 17 border guard posts by the attacks of Revolutionary Forces. In 2024, the junta’s main combat forces, which consisted of 10 Light Infantry Divisions, 17 Military Operations Commands, at least 101 out of 282 battalions in the three brigades were disbanded, and 142 battalions were understaffed.
In addition, from 2021 to December 2024, 382 military personnel and 10,888 police personnel, a total of 14,760 CDM personnel, have defected. At the officer level, five lieutenant colonels, 42 majors, 323 captains, and 102 lieutenants have joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM).
