MYANMAR – The National Unity Government (NUG) has pardoned 169 prisoners and reduced the sentences of remaining prisoners by a third, stated NUG Acting President Duwa Lashi La.
This was the first time NUG issued a pardon and the statement mentioned that 169 detained prisoners have been pardoned under section 401-1 of the Penal Code on the New Year’s Day in respect of humanitarian efforts and for the benefit of the Spring Revolution and for the peace of the people.
In addition, the remaining prisoners not eligible for the pardon also had their sentences reduced by a third under section 401-1.
