MYANMAR—On December 11th, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) published a list of the twenty countries that will experience the worst humanitarian deterioration in 2025, and Myanmar was included as the third-worst country.
In this list of 20 countries, Sudan, which is in a civil war, ranks first with 10% of the world’s population in need of humanitarian assistance. In second place is Palestine from the Gaza Strip, which needs humanitarian aid and food.
The countries of Myanmar ranked third, Syria in fourth, and South Sudan in fifth place.
According to the IRC, nearly 900,000 people have fled their homes in Myanmar, an increase of 37% compared to 2023. It was also stated that there will be more wars this year.
Diarrhea and other diseases threaten the health system of the people of Burma and it is worse in conflict areas. Floods and other adverse weather conditions could further worsen the country in the next year and increase the need for assistance, the IRC said.
