MYANMAR- According to NUG and the Permanent Representative Office of Myanmar to the United Nations in New York, Mr. Kyaw Moe Tun has the right to continue his position as the ambassador representing Myanmar in the UN.
Every year, the Junta Council submits a proposal to replace Mr. Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, with their ambassador. However, the United Nations has allowed only Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun to continue as the representative of Myanmar at the United Nations.
“Since the UN Credentials Committee did not make any changes in the decision regarding the position of ambassador to Myanmar, it is understood that Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun has the right to represent Myanmar as before,” said a source close to the UN-Myanmar Permanent Representative Office in New York.
NUG Human Rights Minister Aung Myo Min wrote on social media that he is proud of Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun for being extended another year as Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
“We are able to prevent junta regime from trying to represent in the United Nations. May the voices of the people continue to raise through the platform of the United Nations. This is a victory for the people,” NUG Minister Aung Myo Min wrote on his social media account.
Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun has continued to represent Myanmar at the United Nations since 2021 after the military coup in Myanmar. He has consistently requested that the international and UN Security Council take immediate action against the Terrorist War Council.
