MYANMAR – Mr. Htain Lin (aka) Kim Aris, the son of the currently detained State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, posted a message on his social media page on the 36th anniversary of the death of his grandmother, Ms. Khin Kyi, to express his respect.
“In 1987 when I was 10, I visited Yangon. Under the lead of grandma, mom and dad entered me into novitation and I became a novice monk. Shortly after that in 1988, mom went back to grandma after grandma fell ill. The 8888 uprising happened and grandma passed away (on December 27, 1988). A large number of Myanmar people defied the martial law that banned gathering of crowds and attended her funeral just on their love for grandpa and grandma. Mom who loves her country just as much as grandpa and grandma also made a clear decision. It resulted in a huge turn of fate for our family,” said Mr. Htain Lin.
He also bowed in respect to his grandmother who he says was a role model for both his mother and Myanmar.
