MYANMAR – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia, who will be taking over the seat of ASEAN chair next year, is reported to have met former Thailand PM Thaksin Shinawatra to discuss regional matters, including Myanmar affairs.
The two had a discussion after the latter was appointed an advisor by the former and the discussion mainly covered important regional matters including reigniting regional economic development, use of developing technologies, peace in southern Thailand and the handling of Myanmar affairs.
It is said that Mr. Thaksin’s extensive regional network and experiences will bring invaluable opportunities to ASEAN and Malaysia and the two reportedly also discussed the ways to strengthen the bilateral relations between Malaysia and Thailand.
Malaysia will be taking over the role of ASEAN chair from Laos next year.
