MYANMAR – Malaysia Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said during the December 16th press conference after his meeting with Thailand PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra that they are working to resolve the crisis in Myanmar through the five consensus of ASEAN.
It is reported that Malaysia and Thailand agreed to resolve the Myanmar affairs based on the ASEAN consensus for peace and reducing conflicts.
The PM said that Malaysia and Thailand are working to have the full representation of Myanmar in ASEAN, that unofficial discussions are planned to resolve the situation in Myanmar via ASEAN consensus, and that finding a solution to Myanmar crisis is the way for Myanmar to return to the ASEAN community.
Malaysia who will take over the role of the ASEAN chair for 2025 has also promised to work together with ASEAN members, discussion partners and international organisations to resolve the Myanmar crisis.
Meanwhile, Thailand stated that two unofficial discussions on Myanmar will be held on December 19 and 20 and that the Myanmar junta council is invited to one of those.
The discussion on Myanmar will also be attended by China, India, Bangladesh, Laos and Thailand and the discussion will also cover border affairs and cross border crimes.
It is also reported that the Indonesia Foreign Affairs Minister will also be attending the December 20th discussion on Myanmar.
