KACHIN STATE – According to the KIA (Kachin Independence Army) news sources, KIA alliance forces conducted area clearance operations in the airport near Bhamo based Military Operations Command 21, in Kachin State, and the battles are still intense between the revolutionary forces and the remaining junta council troops.
The KIA alliance forces managed to completely capture junta Armour Battalion 7006 in Bhamo Town on January 24 after increasing the offensive attacks on and also seized the Artillery Battalion near the Armour Battalion on January 25.
A recorded video released on January 26 showed the KIA alliance forces in the Bhamo Airport. The KIA news sources also mentioned that the KIA alliance forces managed to capture the Bhamo Airport partially.
The KIA news source mentioned that “the revolutionary forces have started capturing the Bhamo Airport. But we haven’t controlled the entire airport area yet. The airport area is quite large. At the moment, we have already cleared half of the airport field. Artillery Battalion 366, the Armour Battalion 7006 and the airport are next to each other. Infantry battalion 236 and 237 are also close to MOC 21.”
He continued that the battles are still intense and the junta council has been continuously conducting airstrikes.
Another KIA news source also confirmed, “that’s right, the KIA alliance forces captured the airport but it is not the whole airport. The airport has two parts. On the other side of the road, there is another part of the airport. The other part of the airport is left to capture.”
The KIA started offensives on Bhamo Town on December 4 and according to the KIA news sources, the KIA alliance forces managed to capture most of the town areas and many junta council stations over 50 days of the battles.
