RAKHINE STATE – The Arakan Army (AA) attacked and captured junta’s Light Infantry Battalion – 563, based in Gwa Town, and the terrorist junta forces of Light Infantry Battalion – 562 continued to resist, according to AA frontline source.
On the early morning of December 20, AA reportedly attacked and captured Gwa Town based LIB – 563, the junta forces of LIB – 563 rejoined with their forces in LIB – 562 and continued to resist from there.
“AA captures junta’s LIB – 563 in Gwa Town. The rest are gathered with their forces LIB – 562 and are resisting,” an AA source said.
There are LIB – 562 and 563 in Gwa Town, and the Arakan Army seized LIB – 563. But AA has not yet officially confirmed the news that it has captured the LIB – 563 and taken control of Gwa Town.
LIB – 562 is located at the entrance of Gwa Town, on the way from Thandwe and Kyeintali Town and the LIB – 563 is located at the down of Yoe Taung, at the entrance of Gwa Town, on the way from Yangon and Ayeyarwady.
At present, fierce encounters broke out between AA and the junta army inside Gwa Town, and AA reportedly combated the last remaining LIB – 562.
Gwa Town is the last town in southern Rakhine State and is also a border town bordering Ayeyarwady Division. In order not to relinquish Gwa Town, the terrorist junta army sent a large number of its reinforcements from Ayeyarwady Division through the sea routes and were fiercely resisting AA’s offensives.
