MON STATE – An official from Dawna Column reported that the battle at Kyonlaung Old Village in Ye Township resulted in the death of around 70 junta soldiers and also injured many.
A large number of junta soldiers from battalions under the Military Operations Command 19 based in Ye Township advanced towards Kyonlaung Old Village on January 9, prompting the revolutionary forces to attack them. The battle has raged on for three consecutive days as of January 11, during which around 70 junta soldiers were killed and many were injured.
“The battle has been going on for three days straight. According to the intel from within the junta army, around 70 were dead. They have been cremating them nonstop. They have been firing heavy artillery shells everyday as well. Over 100 shells are fired in a day. There was also an airstrike around 3:30 p.m. today (January 11) during which four bombs were dropped. The fighting is still intense,” said the official from Dawna Column.
It is said that junta artillery battalion 316, infantry battalion 61 and light infantry 583 have been providing artillery fire, using howitzers, 120mm, 81mm and 60mm shells, targeting nearby villages during the battle, causing thousands of civilians from the villages in the area including Kyonlaung Village and Kyaukmikyaung Village to flee. In addition, it was also reported that junta forces murdered two civilians from Aiphut Village near the Ye Bridge.
It is said that Mon, Karen and PDF forces are jointly attacking said terrorist junta column and that the revolutionary forces are unharmed.
“Remain vigilant of air and artillery strikes. The security department of our battalion is also working with local organisations to help the civilians. We would also like to urge to people to assist where the revolutionary forces are lacking,” said the official from Dawna Column.
