YANGON DIVISION – The special forces of the junta council raided Ward No. 2 in Mayangon Township and checked guest lists in a special operation on December 28 night and abducted a large number of young people including ten of Rakhine descent, reported the residents.
“It was around 1 a.m., hundreds of junta soldiers and police entered Danatheidi Street in Ward No. 2. It is said that they were special forces. They went through all the apartments. Around ten Rakhine young people were taken even though they have registered in the guest list. Other people who didn’t register were also abducted. They carried out the inspections after blocking off the street with prison buses, police cars and military vehicles,” said a resident of Mayangon Ward No. 2.
In addition, junta forces reportedly also checked every house in Muditha Housings 1 in Ward No. 2 and took away every registered guest to the ward administration office.
“Muditha Housing 1 was checked after blocking all the exits. I only learned this morning that the entire Ward No. 2 was checked. It is said that they went through mosquito nets and even rice baskets in certain houses. They were reportedly searching for weapons,” said a resident of Muditha Housing 1.
The residents shared that the junta special forces carried out the searches without the ward administration team accompanying them in the form of a special field operation.
“Over 400 junta soldiers and police checked all the houses. The most number of people were abducted in Muditha Housing. There were also traffic police and some volunteer firefighters. They had military trucks, police cars and ambulances. They even broke into the houses that were locked. The whole ward was checked in relation to the shooting in front of Apollo Hotel on Baho Street the other day. They started at midnight and only returned around 4:30 a.m.,” explained a resident from Ward No. 2 of Mayangon Township.
