KAREN STATE – The Karen National Union (KNU) announced that military airstrikes in Kawkareik Township, Kyaik Done Town, Kya-In Seikyyi Township, and Hpa-An Township have resulted in one woman’s death and the destruction of homes and schools.
On January 22 at 7:30 a.m., the junta council bombed Kyaik Done Town of Kawkareik Township. The bomb landed in a rubber farm near the fire station and a 51-year-old woman from Ward 3 in Kyaik Done Town, returning from collecting rubber, was killed in the explosion. Civilian homes were also damaged.
Similarly, on January 11 at 1:40 a.m., the military launched airstrikes without any ongoing fighting in Yaw Kado Village, Kya-In Seikgyi Township, damaging the village school.
Additionally, on January 21 at 2:40 p.m. in Hpa-An Township, a military junta fighter jet dropped two 500-pound bombs, destroying approximately 300 rubber trees belonging to a woman in Kyone Sein Village.
The KNU stated that the military continues to commit human rights violations and war crimes by intentionally bombing civilian villages through air and artillery attacks.
