AYEYARWADY DIVISION – An official from Pathein township’s Special Branch said “The terrorist army is worried that AA will attack Ayeyarwady region, and is threatening to convene emergency meetings to form neighborhood security groups in Ingapu township.
It is said that the administrators called an emergency meeting on December 19, around 1:00 p.m., of people over the age of 35 to form a neighborhood security group in the Ward 1, 2 and 3 of Mae Zali Gone town in Ingapu township because the terrorist army was worried that AA would attack.
The meeting was held at Bo Aung Kyaw Hall and they said that about 50 people will be required for neighborhood security. They will have to attend 2 weeks of unarmed training and will be paid 6,800 kyats per day after the training. In addition, light blue uniforms were issued to those who graduated from the training and they have to take the duties of checking the guest, providing security guards in VIP routes. It is said that they will be given handcuffs and sticks if they are called.
In addition, the entry of strangers into the neighborhoods or if there are visitors, they must report immediately to the administration. It is reported that the trainees were not equipped with weapons and were only forced to act as informants.
