Despite supporters submitting a petition seeking the release of Zaw Bhone Hein, who was sentenced to 11 years in prison for insulting military leader Min Aung Hlaing and other military leaders, no response has been received to date. According to one of the individuals involved in submitting the petition, the appeal was sent to military leadership in Naypyidaw on August 12, and after 18 days, there has been no acknowledgment or response from the authorities.
Zaw Bhone Hein was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment on August 7 on charges including insulting military leader Min Aung Hlaing and other military officials. Following his sentencing, some military supporters collectively submitted a petition to Min Aung Hlaing seeking his release. While some military officers have informally told the family that he might be included in the amnesty during the 2026 Independence Day or New Year Thingyan period, there has been no official response to the formal petition. One of the petitioners expressed disappointment, stating that despite Zaw Bhone Hein’s consistent support for the military, he has been treated dismissively in this situation.
Zaw Bhone Hein was arrested by the military in Pyin Oo Lwin at around 1 PM on June 2. He was subsequently charged on June 12 with multiple offenses, including Section 505(a) of the Penal Code for defamation of the state and Section 66(d) of the Telecommunications Law. The case against him was filed at the Dagon Myothit (South) Township Police Station in Yangon Region by Daw Moe Moe Khaing, a supporter of the Ma Ba Tha organization and the military, specifically for insulting Min Aung Hlaing and other high-ranking military officers.
