MYANMAR – The parents and relatives of the arrested young men said that the junta council’s army arrested the young men traveling on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway, claiming to serve in the military.
At 2:40 p.m. on February 4th, 5 people, who live in Sipin Aye Village, Swamin Lan village group, Yedashe township , Bago division including Maung Kyaw Zin Thet, the son of U Min Thaung , and Maung Ye Min Aung, the son of U Htay Lwin, returned from the wedding ceremony from Bago in Probox car 9E/2970. It is learned that the army arrested two men, Maung Kyaw Zin Thet and Maung Ye Min Aung claiming that they are between the ages of 18 and 35, as conscription law at the Oktwin city check point.
“They were returning from a wedding in Bago. 5 people went in a car. My brother Kyaw Zin Thet and Ye Min Aung are young people who are between the age of military service. They were arrested at the Oktwin Gate on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway. He was arrested after a registration check and found that he was old enough. Now we are asking, but there’s no response. When I asked the police station, they said that it was not their business and it was done by the army. We don’t know where he was kept,” said a relative of the arrested person.
The parents of Maung Kyaw Zin Thet and Maung Ye Min Aung complained to the relevant conscription regiments about being arrested on the road for claiming to serve in the military but no action was taken. The 2 arrested youths live with their parents in the village and work in agriculture. It is understood that they don’t have any criminal record.
The Terrorist War Council is taking such young people to serve in the military and arresting them on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway. In early February, a teenager was arrested for military service at the Nay Pyi Taw entry checkpoint for carrying a damaged registration card without changing it for a new one.
