The Ye Bilu resistance group has eliminated Police Major Myo Thu, who was involved in forced military recruitment of youth in Ye Township, Mon State, and seized assets worth nearly 20 million kyats from him. The operation took place around 7 PM on March 9th when resistance members targeted the police major while he was drinking beer in Aung Thu Kha ward of Ye town. During the operation, the group seized several valuable items from the police major, including a 2.5 tical gold necklace, two high-end Vivo mobile phones, 10 million kyats from a KBZ bank account book, and 400,000 kyats in cash.
According to the leader of the Ye Bilu group, Police Major Myo Thu was known for oppressing local civilians through various illegal activities. He operated gambling dens, distributed narcotics, conducted arbitrary arrests of civilians, and extorted money from people under the pretense of helping with legal cases. Most significantly, he played a leading role in forcibly recruiting young people from Ye town as porters for military operations. The resistance group confirmed that the seized items were acquired through illegal means and extortion from local civilians. The police major’s activities had caused significant hardship for the local population, particularly through his involvement in forced recruitment operations.
The people of Ye Township continue to struggle under the military council’s oppressive rule, facing various forms of exploitation including forced military recruitment, porter service, and extortion by administrative bodies under military control. Local residents have expressed hope that the elimination of military council collaborators by resistance forces will help protect the lives, property, and well-being of civilians in the area. The incident highlights the ongoing conflict between resistance forces fighting to protect civilian interests and those enforcing the military council’s oppressive policies at the local level.
