Soldiers from Military Battalion 591, based in Kyaung Village in Ye Township, Mon State, came under attack from the local resistance group Ye Bilu when they ventured out for patrol duties in the afternoon. The resistance fighters launched an RPG attack on the military council troops, causing casualties and forcing them to retreat in fear back to their base. The encounter took place near Kyaung Village when the Ye Bilu forces ambushed the military patrol group as they were conducting their routine patrol operations.
According to the Ye Bilu battalion commander, the military patrol consisted of approximately 20 soldiers. The resistance forces were able to launch a direct RPG attack due to the clear line of sight in the open terrain where the encounter took place. While the attack resulted in military casualties, the exact number of deaths and injuries could not be confirmed. The resistance forces reported no casualties on their side during the engagement. The commander emphasized that the clear visibility of the area allowed them to target the military patrol effectively with their RPG weapons.
This clash represents one of many ongoing confrontations between military council forces and people’s defense forces in Mon State, where local resistance groups maintain close surveillance of military movements and conduct defensive operations. The people’s defense forces continue their resistance against the military council troops due to the latter’s ongoing oppression and exploitation of local civilians. These resistance operations are primarily aimed at protecting local communities from military council forces who have been accused of numerous human rights violations and acts of violence against civilians throughout the region.
