A bridge on the Yangon-Mawlamyine railway line in Bilin Township, Mon State, was destroyed in a bombing incident between Nyar Pearl and Taung Sone stations, according to both military council and revolutionary sources. The attack on May 6 has forced the temporary suspension of two train services – the No. 82 down train from Mawlamyine to Yangon and the No. 81 up train from Yangon to Mawlamyine. Myanmar Railways, under the military council’s control, has announced that ticket refunds are being processed at the Mawlamyine station’s day counter for passengers who had purchased tickets for these routes.
Revolutionary sources have revealed that the military council frequently uses the Yangon-Mawlamyine railway line to transport troops and weapons to the Southeast Command headquarters in Mawlamyine and other military territories. These transports are often disguised as cargo trains, and this bombing incident is expected to significantly impact the military council’s ability to move weapons and supplies. However, the identity of the group responsible for this attack has not been confirmed. The targeting of this railway line is particularly significant as it serves as a crucial supply route for the military council’s operations in the region.
Additionally, on the evening of May 3, the Mokaung Bridge on the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway near Mokaung Pagoda in Thaton Township was also destroyed in a separate bombing incident. The bridge was completely destroyed. These consecutive attacks on both railway and road infrastructure have created significant obstacles for the military council’s military operations and supply routes. As the military council continues its violent oppression of local civilians, analysts suggest that such attacks targeting their military logistics may increase. These incidents represent a significant challenge to the military council’s ability to maintain its operations and transport capabilities in the region.
