
In Salingyi Township, Sagaing Region, military forces’ indiscriminate shooting has resulted in the death of an innocent civilian, forcing thousands of local residents to flee to safety. On August 16 at approximately 11:00 AM, military troops from the Wampong Company, claiming to be on patrol, entered Kyaukphyutaing village and opened fire with heavy and light weapons.
The military attack resulted in the death of a woman from Kyaukphyutaing village who was hit by gunfire. According to local residents, the military patrol consisted of approximately 40 troops. The attack on the civilian area was reportedly in retaliation for resistance forces’ artillery strikes near the Wampong Company facility. As a result of this attack, residents from more than five villages have been forced to flee their homes fearing for their lives. Local sources confirm that thousands of civilians are currently displaced from their communities.
Additionally, on August 18, a military helicopter from the Northwest Military Command conducted an airstrike on Moegyopyin Taung village, resulting in the death of another woman. These deliberate attacks by the military on civilian populations have severely disrupted daily life in the region, leading to loss of lives and property, while forcing residents to live in constant fear and uncertainty. The ongoing military operations continue to target civilian areas, causing widespread displacement and humanitarian concerns in the region.
