A civilian woman was killed and three others were severely injured when the military council conducted an airstrike on a hospital compound in Kyuntaukpauk village, Sintguu Township, Mandalay Region, according to the Sintguu Township People’s Defense Force (PDF) information officer. The attack occurred around 5:30 AM on June 9, when a military jet fighter approaching from Tataoo launched a bomb at the hospital compound.
The airstrike resulted in the immediate death of a woman who was out shopping, while among the other casualties, one person’s arm was severed, and two others sustained shrapnel wounds to their thighs. Additionally, a building within the hospital compound was destroyed in the attack. This targeting of civilians and critical infrastructure such as hospitals demonstrates the military council’s continued brutality against its own people. The deliberate attack on a medical facility and civilian areas represents a clear violation of international humanitarian law and constitutes a war crime, as pointed out by the local People’s Defense Force.
According to local sources, residents in the area are living in constant fear of such airstrikes by the military council, having to remain vigilant at all times. The attack on a hospital compound, which should be protected under international law, highlights the military council’s disregard for civilian safety and humanitarian principles. Local residents report that such attacks have become increasingly common, forcing them to live under constant threat and uncertainty. The targeting of healthcare facilities not only endangers immediate lives but also compromises the community’s access to essential medical services during these critical times.
