A civilian was severely injured after stepping on a landmine planted by the terrorist military forces at the Yuzana palm oil plantation in Bokpyin Township, Tanintharyi Region. The incident occurred around 12 noon on March 12, when revolutionary forces were conducting systematic security checks for traveling civilians at the R0 checkpoint. During this time, an explosion was heard from within the 300-acre plantation owned by Yuzana Company. The explosion resulted in severe injuries to a 52-year-old woman who was working in the plantation.
The incident occurred when plantation workers were conducting weeding operations and accidentally triggered one of the landmines previously planted by the terrorist military forces. The explosion caused severe injuries to the woman’s leg, resulting in bone fractures. Revolutionary forces provided necessary medical assistance to the injured woman and managed to transport her to the hospital in time. Currently, her condition is reported to be stable and no longer life-threatening.
The terrorist military council troops had previously used the Yuzana palm oil plantation area for ambush operations and planted 14 landmines, which they left without clearing, leading to civilian casualties. This act of planting landmines in civilian workplaces constitutes a violation of international law and poses a serious threat to the lives and property of innocent civilians. The military’s deliberate placement of landmines in civilian areas demonstrates their continued disregard for civilian safety and human rights, reflecting their ongoing campaign of terror against the Myanmar people.
