A woman has been arrested in Hnit Karen village, Ye Township, Mon State, for producing and using counterfeit 10,000 kyat notes. The case came to light after her husband, who had run away with their housemaid, reported her counterfeiting activities to the police station. The arrested woman, identified as Ma Myu Linn Linn, age 28, was found in possession of over 12 million kyats in counterfeit currency.
On September 11, the Ye Township police conducted a raid at Ma Myu Linn Linn’s residence in Quarter 5 of Hnit Karen village. According to local residents, the case originated from a family dispute when the husband fled with their housemaid and subsequently reported his wife’s illegal activities to the police station. During the investigation, police discovered that Ma Myu Linn Linn had been using a color printer to produce counterfeit notes, carefully selecting paper types that closely resembled genuine currency.
Local residents revealed that Ma Myu Linn Linn had been engaged in counterfeiting activities for some time before her arrest. Police investigations uncovered that she employed sophisticated color printing technology and specially selected paper materials to produce the counterfeit notes. The production process involved careful attention to detail to make the fake currency appear as close as possible to genuine banknotes. Given the potential impact on the local economy and monetary system, authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the case. The discovery of such a significant amount of counterfeit currency has raised concerns about the potential circulation of fake notes in the local market.
