The Force for Federal Democracy (FFD) has announced that they have successfully attacked and destroyed the armory at Waw Lay Strategic Base, one of the military council’s last remaining strongholds along the Thai-Myanmar border in Myawaddy Township, Karen State. The attack was carried out through a joint drone operation between FFD’s drone units and Brigade 6 on July 12. Thai media outlets confirmed that the attack resulted in a massive explosion at the base’s armory, marking a significant blow to the military council’s capabilities in the region.
According to revolutionary sources, Waw Lay Strategic Base is currently completely surrounded by revolutionary forces, leaving the military council troops inside with no route for reinforcements or escape. The revolutionary forces have urged the soldiers inside the base to surrender their weapons, suggesting that doing so would save their lives. Sources within the revolutionary movement have indicated that they expect a resolution to the situation within the next few days. The strategic importance of this base cannot be understated, as it represents one of the last remaining military council positions in the border area.
In response to the situation, the military council attempted to defend the base through airstrikes on July 13 at 1:30 PM. They deployed two Yak-130 fighter aircraft, which dropped seven bombs targeting the revolutionary forces’ positions around the base. However, these airstrikes proved ineffective, with no reported casualties among the revolutionary forces. Currently, only two military council bases remain along the entire Thai-Myanmar border: the Waw Lay Strategic Base and the Ti Thel Lae Base. This development represents a significant shift in the balance of power in the border region, with revolutionary forces continuing to gain ground against the military council’s diminishing presence.
