The ward administrator of Kwe Chaung ward in Htone Bo town, Bago Region, Ye Aung and his wife Khin Mar Yi, who were actively coercing people to join the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) and promising military service exemptions to young people, were killed in an attack. On July 21, 2023, at around 6 AM, when the couple was riding a motorcycle near the entrance of Kwe Chaung ward, they were attacked by members of the Battalion 3802 Division 4 Underground Guerrilla Force-Htone Bo, resulting in their immediate deaths.
Administrator Ye Aung served as a leader of the security force and was known to gather intelligence about revolutionary organizations and report to the military council. He and his wife were also reportedly extorting money from civilians under the pretext of military service fees. After the attack, items recovered from Administrator Ye Aung included one hand grenade, one detonator, one mobile phone, two national ID cards, one security force membership card, and 85,000 kyats in cash.
A spokesperson from the Battalion 3802 Division 4 Underground Guerrilla Force-Htone Bo announced that they will intensify their operations against both military council troops and their supporters who have been oppressing civilians and revolutionary forces. They have warned civilians to avoid any proximity to these targets and declared their intention to continue attacking those involved with the military council’s illegal election plans. The group emphasized their commitment to opposing the military council’s activities and protecting civilian interests in the region.
