According to local residents, approximately 5 civilians were killed and the villages of Myay Sone Taw and Zayapin were destroyed by arson when military council troops conducted operations in the river island area of Yesagyo Township, Magway Region. Starting from March 2, military forces from Yesagyo town collaborated with troops already stationed in the river island area to raid Myay Sone Taw village, systematically burning civilian homes from the morning onwards.
Myay Sone Taw village, which contained over 400 households, was almost completely destroyed by the military council’s arson attacks. Additionally, the military forces arrested and killed civilians, fired heavy weapons indiscriminately, and burned to death those who were too ill to flee their homes. As a result, approximately 5 civilians from Ywa Thit village, Myay Sone Taw village, and Malaka Chan village were killed, according to local sources. The military council troops continued their destruction by burning down Zayapin village at 9:25 AM on March 5, followed by arson attacks on Thagaung Lay village around 4:10 PM.
Currently, military council forces have established positions within villages across the river island area and set up numerous outposts, making it difficult to verify detailed ground situations, according to locals. Civilians in the area remain displaced by the fighting, and while there are reports of a monk being killed, this information has not yet been confirmed. The systematic destruction of Myay Sone Taw village, which housed approximately 400 families, was carried out by military forces in a single day, demonstrating the scale and intensity of the attacks against civilian targets in the area.
