Local administrators in villages across Hlegu Township, Yangon Region, are reportedly pressuring and threatening residents to join the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP). According to local sources, starting from July 10, village administrator Zaw Win of Mingone village and Pyu Saw Htee members have been going door-to-door throughout villages in the Mingone village tract, including San Pya, Myaung Chaung, Utaw, Botho Inn, Konminlyo, Lay Ein Su, and Myay Ni Kwin villages, coercing residents to join the USDP party.
The administrator and Pyu Saw Htee members have been threatening those who refuse to join the party with arrest by the military and forced conscription into military service. Additionally, they are forcing people who join the party to attend anti-National Unity Government (NUG) and anti-People’s Defense Force (PDF) demonstrations scheduled for July 13. Sources report that residents are being compelled to participate in these activities against their will, with administrators conducting forceful recruitment drives throughout the area.
Furthermore, the administrators are pressuring residents to vote exclusively for the USDP party in the upcoming elections scheduled for the end of the year. A local resident revealed that they are living under intense military pressure, being forced to join the party and attend demonstrations without their consent. The situation has created an atmosphere of fear and anxiety among local residents, who are being compelled to act against their wishes and face threats of serious consequences if they do not comply with these demands.
