On September 6 at around 7:30 PM, an attack occurred in Kantha Ya village, Htaukkyant Township, Bago Region, resulting in the death of village administrator Htun Thein. Members of the Battalion 3802 Division 5 Black Tiger guerrilla group carried out the attack while the administrator was speaking with Pyu Saw Htee leader Hla Shwe. The incident took place as part of ongoing resistance operations against military council collaborators in the region.
Administrator Htun Thein was known for oppressing local civilians through various means, including forcibly recruiting young people for military service, extorting money under the guise of military service fees, and coercing farmers to repay agricultural loans under threat of military arrest. He was also pressuring Pyu Saw Htee groups to provide security for the military council’s illegal election. As a long-standing supporter of the military, he had been instrumental in implementing oppressive policies against local residents and directing other administrators and Pyu Saw Htee members to suppress civilian populations.
During the attack, Administrator Htun Thein was struck by three bullets to the head and died instantly, while Pyu Saw Htee leader Hla Shwe managed to escape. Revolutionary forces seized documents from the administrator’s home, including lists of potential military recruits and other papers, which they subsequently destroyed by burning. After escaping, Pyu Saw Htee leader Hla Shwe contacted military forces, resulting in artillery fire into the village with two heavy weapons. However, the resistance fighters were able to withdraw from the area without casualties. The Black Tiger guerrilla group has warned civilians to avoid proximity to military council collaborators, as they will continue to target both the military council and its support structure in their revolutionary activities.
