In Nat Htamin village of Minle Township, Bago Region, village administrator Thein Naing Soe, who had been forcing local youth and civilians unable to pay military service fees into military service, was killed in an attack by revolutionary forces. On March 8th at approximately 11:45 AM, combined forces from Thayarwaddy District Battalion 3802’s Units 2 and 3, along with Minle Township People’s Defense Force, entered his residence and carried out the operation. He was shot three times in the head, resulting in immediate death.
The deceased administrator, also known as Ngaylae, had been forcibly collecting money from impoverished civilians under the guise of military service fees. Those who could not afford to pay were reported to the military forces for arrest. He was also known for providing false information to the military about civilians and showing contempt for revolutionary forces, which ultimately led to him being targeted. According to a spokesperson from the Thayarwaddy District PDF, his actions had caused severe hardship for local residents, forcing many to flee their homes and disrupting their livelihoods to the point where some faced food insecurity.
The Thayarwaddy District PDF has announced their intention to continue operations against the military forces and their collaborators who oppress civilians and revolutionary forces. They have issued warnings to civilians to avoid areas where military forces and their associates are stationed. The incident highlights the ongoing conflict between revolutionary forces fighting for civilian protection and those working with the military council to enforce their policies, including forced recruitment and extortion of civilians under the pretext of military service fees.
