In Putein village of Letpadan Township, Bago Region, village administrator Htun Htun, who had been forcibly recruiting young people for military service while defying the People’s Defense Force (PDF), was killed in an attack by Battalion 3802’s Units 2 and 3 of Thayarwaddy District. The incident occurred around 1 PM on May 27 when Htun Htun was walking back from a military checkpoint on foot when he encountered the resistance forces.
Htun Htun, who also served as a leader of the Pyu Saw Htee group, had been actively involved in surveillance of revolutionary forces’ movements and reporting to the military, pressuring young people into military service, forcibly collecting money from civilians under the guise of military service fees, ordering the arrest of those who couldn’t pay, and openly challenging and disrespecting resistance forces. He had been coordinating with the military to arrest civilians based on false accusations of supporting the PDF.
During the attack, Htun Htun sustained three gunshot wounds to the head, resulting in immediate death. The attacking forces also seized a mobile phone he used for communication with the military. According to an official from Battalion 3802’s Unit 3, despite previous warnings, Htun Htun had continued to harass civilians and collaborate with the military, which ultimately led to this action being taken against him. He had been particularly aggressive in forcing young people into military service, often conducting house raids alongside military personnel to capture potential recruits, causing many young people to flee their homes.
Battalion 3802’s Unit 3 of Thayarwaddy District has issued a warning to civilians to completely avoid proximity to the military and their associates, announcing that revolutionary forces will continue to target the military and their supporting infrastructure. The statement emphasized that this action was taken in response to Htun Htun’s persistent role in oppressing civilians and supporting the military’s forced recruitment efforts in the area.
