The administrator Kyaw Win Htut of Oak Thar Pin village in Peitchinkon village tract, Thayetkone Township, Pyay District, Bago Region, who was recruiting soldiers for the military council, was shot dead on the spot around 11 AM on May 23. The incident occurred while he was traveling from Oak Thar Pin village towards Yonpintet village, when members of Battalion 1, Regiment 3601 from Pyay District carried out the operation between Yonpintet village and Bhrankan village.
The deceased administrator Kyaw Win Htut was not only forcibly recruiting local youth for military service for the violent military council but was also extorting money from villagers, collecting between 30,000 to 50,000 kyats per household under the pretext of providing salaries and training costs for recruits. He was known to be financially supporting the military council through these collections. Reports indicate that he had been oppressing and controlling local civilians in various ways.
When military council soldiers from Thayetkone town came to retrieve Kyaw Win Htut’s body with approximately twenty personnel on ten motorcycles, People’s Defense Force members launched a mine attack at 2:15 PM. Some military council soldiers were reportedly killed and injured in this subsequent attack, though the exact casualties are still being investigated according to a confirmation from an official of Battalion 3601.
