On July 5th at 10:30 PM, a fatal incident occurred during the arrest of Aung Myint, a military council-appointed administrator of Me Taw village in Kyunsu Township, Tanintharyi Region. The operation was jointly conducted by Myeik District Battalion 2, Tanintharyi Township PDF Zone 6, and the Daung Nate group. The incident began when resistance forces attempted to arrest the administrator at his residence.
During the arrest operation, Administrator Aung Myint initially fled from his home, prompting resistance forces to pursue him. He was later found with his associates, who attempted to resist the arrest using sticks and weapons. The resistance forces fired two warning shots, causing the associates to flee, after which they successfully apprehended the administrator. Upon searching Aung Myint, they discovered two small beer cans, narcotic substances, and ammunition on his person.
During the transport of the detained administrator, a military council vessel opened fire with point-blank shots toward the positions of revolutionary forces. Taking advantage of this situation, Administrator Aung Myint attempted to escape while shouting and cursing, which led to resistance forces firing at him, resulting in his death. However, the revolutionary forces managed to withdraw safely without any casualties on their side.
The deceased administrator Aung Myint had been repeatedly warned by People’s Defense Forces but continued to engage in various activities supporting the military council, including drug trafficking and personal drug use, forced military recruitment, and collecting money from villages for military service. These actions led to his arrest by revolutionary forces, who have issued warnings to other military council collaborators to cease their activities or face effective action. The resistance forces have emphasized that those who continue to support the military council’s oppressive actions against civilians will face consequences.
