The administrator of Oak Poke village in Taungdwingyi Township, Magway Region, Kyaw Maung Latt, who had been collecting excessive military service fees and oppressing civilians, was killed during an attack by revolutionary forces on June 29, according to a representative from the Punnavati People’s Defense Force. The operation was jointly carried out by the Punnavati People’s Defense Force, Battalion 5 of Salay District, and the Southern Magway People’s Defense Force.
Kyaw Maung Latt, who also served as a leader of the Pyu Saw Htee militia group, was known for numerous acts of oppression against local residents. His activities included collecting exorbitant military service fees, extorting money from ox-carts and bamboo-carts at checkpoints, physically abusing elderly villagers, establishing Pyu Saw Htee training camps to form armed groups in villages, and coercing civilians to participate in the military council’s election plans. These actions had severely impacted the local community and led to widespread suffering among villagers.
During the attack, revolutionary forces entered Kyaw Maung Latt’s residence, where they encountered resistance from Pyu Saw Htee members, resulting in the death of one revolutionary fighter. However, Kyaw Maung Latt was killed instantly in the ensuing battle. The revolutionary forces consider this operation a successful removal of a military council-appointed administrator who had been systematically oppressing local civilians. The elimination of such administrators is seen as a necessary step in protecting civilians from the military council’s oppressive policies and practices in rural areas.
