The village administrator U Than Lwin of Myauk Chauk Kone village in Htone Bo Township, Bago Region, was killed in an attack by revolutionary forces after threatening villagers over military service fees. The incident occurred around 1 PM on May 22 near the road between Thalika and Gway Chaung Gyi. The administrator had been demanding 300,000 kyats per household as military service fees and threatening to forcibly send those who couldn’t pay to join the military, according to local residents.
According to a spokesperson from the HERO Guerrilla Force Battalion 5 of Township 1 in Thayarwady District, the attack was deliberately carried out against the administrator who had been oppressing local civilians. The revolutionary forces were able to retreat safely without any casualties after the operation. The group has also issued a warning stating that they will continue to target administrators who comply with and enforce military council orders.
The revolutionary forces have urged local residents to avoid any contact with the military council and their subordinates. They emphasized that collecting military service fees is an illegal action by the military council, and administrators who continue to pressure civilians economically and through intimidation will face similar consequences. The group reiterated that they will take action against those who participate in oppressing civilians through such collection schemes and threats.
