On July 25 in Yangon, Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) Chairman Khin Yi declared during party organizational meetings and public gatherings that the National League for Democracy (NLD) party’s name has been destroyed in Myanmar’s political landscape. He stated that the USDP is the only major political party capable of competing nationwide in the election planned by the military council, claiming it is the only party qualified to form a government.
Khin Yi asserted that the NLD has completely disappeared from Myanmar’s political scene, emphasizing that this was not due to pressure from any individual but rather the NLD leadership’s own choice. He noted that although the military council had allowed the NLD to re-register as a political party, the party chose not to register and instead opted for what he termed an ‘armed terrorist path.’ USDP sources reported that Khin Yi has been consistently campaigning at public meetings, urging people to choose the USDP as the only party capable of truly reforming the country.
During a media meeting in Mandalay on July 19, Khin Yi reiterated his stance, stating that the NLD’s name has legally ceased to exist in Myanmar’s political arena. He continued to emphasize that this was the party’s own choice and not the result of external pressure. The USDP, led by a former military general, has been actively promoting itself as the only party capable of addressing current issues facing young people, including forced military recruitment and porter service conscription.
Khin Yi has been consistently campaigning that the USDP is the only party capable of restoring the future of young people and addressing the challenges they face under current circumstances. He continues to promote the USDP as the sole party capable of bringing peace and stability to the country, making these claims during various public meetings and party gatherings throughout the country.
