A representative from the Shwetanmyay People’s Defense Force has confirmed that two women were killed and two others were injured when the military council forces conducted an unprovoked drone strike on Thet Haung Pyin village in Letpadan Township, Bago Region, during the afternoon of September 9. The attack claimed the lives of 60-year-old Daw Khin Hlaing and 50-year-old Daw San Htay, who died instantly. Additionally, 45-year-old Ma Nyo Mi Hlaing and 9-year-old Ma Yone Wadi sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
The drone strike also resulted in the destruction of two houses by fire. This attack was not an isolated incident in the Letpadan area. On September 4, military council troops stationed in Letpadan town had previously launched another drone strike, dropping two bombs on Thayet Chaung village after passing through Sin Ta Lin village. In that attack, a bomb struck the house of U Zeyar Lin, resulting in an explosion that killed one civilian. These incidents demonstrate a pattern of increasing drone attacks by military council forces against civilian areas.
These attacks by military council forces against civilians have become a daily occurrence, with a notable increase in the use of drone warfare. The military has been targeting villagers even in areas where there is no active fighting. Local residents report that these attacks continue to result in civilian casualties and property destruction, affecting innocent people who have no involvement in the conflict. The military council’s use of aerial attacks against civilian populations has become a growing concern, as it shows a deliberate targeting of non-combatant areas, leading to loss of life and destruction of civilian infrastructure.
