THAILAND – The Thai Ministry of Defence is reported to have prosecuted two police generals with suspected links to the online scam rings in Myawaddy of Karen State by transferring them to inactive posts.
Police General Ekkarath Intaserb of the No.5 Investigation Bureau was transferred to an inactive post in the Thai Royal Police since he is about to go under investigations for his suspected links to the criminal gangs in Myawaddy.
Thai PM Rangsiman Rome pointed out in April last year that Thai businessmen were involved in at least 17 casinos in Myawaddy and that one such casino was owned by a Thai police general with close relations to the government.
The February 11 statement by Defence Minister Phumthum Wechayachai mentioned potential orders to remove state officials with links to illegal activities on border regions.
Similarly, Police General Samrit Amkamol from Tak Province at the Thai-Myanmar border was also transferred to an inactive post and is due to be investigated for his inactions in handling the criminal gangs in his area of authority.
