A drone strike targeted the house of Pyu Saw Htee leader Aung Gyi in Let Pan village along the Sittaung River in Waw Township, Bago Region, where he had been challenging local People’s Defense Force (PDF) groups. The attack occurred around 6 PM on March 18, resulting in the death of two soldiers and leaving seven Pyu Saw Htee members severely injured. The injured were initially taken to Myit Kyoe Hospital before being transferred to Taungoo Hospital for further treatment.
Let Pan village is known to have the strongest Pyu Saw Htee presence among the villages along the Sittaung River, with over thirty active members. The leader, Aung Gyi, has repeatedly challenged local People’s Defense Forces and collaborates with the military council forces. The drone strike was carried out by the Taung Nyo column while soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee members were gathered at the house.
As People’s Defense Force activities have intensified in Waw Township, attacks against Pyu Saw Htee groups collaborating with military council forces have also increased. Local civilians oppose organizations working with military council forces and continue to support the People’s Defense Forces. The incident highlights the ongoing conflict between resistance forces and military-affiliated groups in the region, with local communities predominantly backing the resistance movement against the military council and its allied forces.
