Two police officers were killed in an attack while collecting illegal tolls in Let Swe village, Myinmu Township, Mandalay Region. The incident occurred on March 12 when two officers from Manawkan Police Station in Myinmu Township were setting up checkpoints on the road in Let Swe village, where they were extorting money from civilians, making threats, and conducting arbitrary arrests. People’s Defense Forces (PDF) launched an attack on the officers during their illegal activities.
During the attack, both police officers were killed, and two firearms were seized from them. According to a representative from the Nyaung Thar Gyi PDF – Myingyan District Battalion 4, the area had previously experienced forced porter recruitment, arrests of young people, and excessive toll collection from cargo vehicles. Notably, on March 11, there were reports of forced porter recruitment in Let Swe village, and cargo vehicles were being charged between 100,000 to 200,000 kyats in illegal tolls.
The operation was jointly carried out by Nyaung Thar Gyi PDF – Myingyan District Battalion 4 and Myingyan District Battalion 10. After the attack, all PDF members successfully withdrew from the area without any casualties. According to local residents, the region continues to experience oppression, extortion, and violence from the military administration. The incident highlights the ongoing conflict between resistance forces and security forces aligned with the military council, particularly regarding the exploitation of civilians through illegal checkpoints and forced labor practices in the area.
