The incident occurred on March 13 when revolutionary forces intercepted and attacked a group of military council naval vessels near Won Taung village as they were moving from the direction of Myin Twar village and Shaw Taw Maw village. The military council’s naval group consisted of two ships, including Naval Vessel 114, two motorboats, and three smaller fiber boats.
Following the engagement, military council troops attempted to secretly transport two injured navy personnel by motorboat to Myeik, but the injured personnel died during the journey. An official from the Kyunsu Township People’s Defense Force stated that the military council tried to conceal their casualties from the public by attempting to secretly transport the injured personnel. The attack was led by revolutionary fighters from the Kyunsu Township People’s Defense Force, and the engagement lasted for several minutes with exchanges of fire between both sides.
After the battle, the revolutionary forces were able to successfully withdraw without suffering any casualties. The People’s Defense Force announced that they would continue to protect local civilians as the military council forces have been terrorizing and threatening the local population. It has been reported that the military council forces have been restricting movement in the region and subjecting local residents to forced labor and extortion. The military council’s continued oppression of civilians in the area has led to increased resistance activities by revolutionary forces who are working to protect the local population’s safety and rights.
