Local residents reported that two monks were killed when the terrorist military council conducted an unprovoked airstrike on a monastery in Chan Myae Su village, Kyaikto Township, Mon State. The military council’s aircraft deliberately targeted the monastery on August 24 at approximately 10:30 AM. The airstrike resulted in injuries to seven monks inside the monastery compound, with two monks succumbing to their severe injuries while being transported for emergency medical treatment.
According to a local resident, the military council deliberately targeted the monastery near Kular Way Seik on the opposite bank, despite there being no active conflict in the area. Among the injured monks, one remains in critical condition. Local residents point out that such airstrikes constitute war crimes deliberately committed by the military council against civilians and religious personnel. The attacks demonstrate a pattern of targeted violence against both civilian populations and religious institutions.
Previously, on August 9, the terrorist military council had also conducted an unprovoked airstrike on Pinne Kon village in the Pyinkateikkone village tract of Kyaikto Township. That attack resulted in one civilian death and four injuries. The military council has been systematically targeting civilian areas throughout Mon State, including religious buildings, as part of their campaign of violence. These attacks reflect the military council’s ongoing strategy of targeting civilian infrastructure and religious sites, showing complete disregard for civilian lives and religious sanctuaries in their operations across the region.
