On April 15 at approximately 9:30 AM, two military council soldiers were fatally shot in a close-range attack while they were out buying alcohol in Nyaung Hla Gyi city, Mandalay Region. The attack was carried out by two resistance fighters from the local People’s Defense Force (PDF) using pistols. Both soldiers died instantly at the scene. The PDF members successfully seized two MA-11 rifles, three ammunition magazines, and 85 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition from the deceased soldiers.
According to a responsible official from the Nyaung Hla Gyi Township PDF, the resistance fighters were able to safely withdraw from the area after the operation. Despite the military council’s declaration of a ceasefire, they continue to launch daily attacks on villages and religious buildings within Nyaung Hla Gyi Township using various weapons including aircraft, mechanized paratroopers, and howitzers. The ongoing attacks have created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among local residents.
The PDF has issued warnings to local civilians to remain vigilant, particularly during the Myanmar New Year Thingyan period, due to the continued threat of military council attacks. The military council’s persistent violence against civilians has caused significant concern among the local population. However, the PDF has assured that they are doing their utmost to protect and defend the safety of civilians in the area. The incident highlights the ongoing conflict between resistance forces and the military council, with civilian safety remaining a primary concern for local defense forces.
