
Two military council soldiers were killed in a close-range attack while extorting money from civilian vehicles in plain clothes near Basic Education High School No. 1 in Monywa, Sagaing Region, according to an official from The Phoenix Army. The incident occurred at approximately 11:11 AM on June 1st, when revolutionary forces conducted a targeted operation against the soldiers who were illegally collecting money from passing civilian vehicles.
The operation was jointly carried out by The Phoenix Army, Battalion 17 Division 3 of Monywa District, and Battalion 15 Division 5 of Monywa District. The military council soldiers, who were dressed in civilian clothes to conceal their identity, were stopping civilian vehicles and demanding illegal payments when the resistance forces launched their attack. Both soldiers were killed instantly in the engagement, and the revolutionary forces successfully seized the motorcycle the soldiers had been using.
This incident highlights the ongoing practice of illegal extortion by military council forces, which has become a significant burden for local civilians, affecting both their daily economic activities and freedom of movement.
