The People’s Defense Force (PDF) in Nyaung-U Township has confirmed the capture of two military council captains, Captain Nyi Nyi Myoe Swe and Captain Soe Htut Kyaw, on the Nyaung-U-Chauk road in Mandalay Region. According to Ko Zi, the PDF commander for Nyaung-U Township, the capture occurred approximately a week ago when PDF forces were conducting security checks along the road. The two officers were traveling in a private vehicle from Naypyidaw towards Chauk and Yenangyaung areas when they were intercepted.
At the time of their capture, the officers were wearing civilian clothes and were not carrying any weapons. The PDF commander stated that the captured officers will be treated according to prisoner of war laws and have already been transferred to the Nyaung-U District PDF command. The operation was carried out by the Western Zone PDF of Nyaung-U Township, specifically the Bagan-Bo Cho group. The prisoners will be further transferred to the relevant ministry through the Nyaung-U District People’s Defense Force.
The PDF maintains a strong presence throughout Nyaung-U Township and has issued warnings that military council soldiers and their associates will face legal consequences for their actions. They have also advised local civilians to maintain a safe distance from military council convoys and movements. This capture demonstrates the continued resistance activities against the military council in the region and the PDF’s commitment to maintaining security in areas under their control. The incident also highlights the ongoing conflict between pro-democracy forces and the military council, with resistance forces actively working to apprehend military personnel operating in civilian areas.
