Two men were injured when a concrete slab collapsed during the demolition of an earthquake-damaged building in Mandalay’s Chan Aye Thar Zan Township, between 26th Street and 86th-87th Streets, according to an official from the Myanmar Social Rescue Team (Mandalay Regional Committee). The incident occurred around 1 PM on May 30, and the injured persons are reported to be in non-critical condition.
The injured men were immediately transported to Mandalay General Hospital by an ambulance from the Myanmar Social Rescue Team’s Chan Aye Thar Zan Township office. The victims sustained leg injuries and are currently receiving necessary medical treatment at the hospital, as confirmed by the official. The rescue team responded promptly to ensure the injured received timely medical attention.
Following the March 28 earthquake in Mandalay, many buildings were damaged and left tilting. With the arrival of the rainy season and frequent heavy rainfall, the risk of these earthquake-damaged buildings collapsing has significantly increased. However, the military council has failed to provide necessary assistance for the systematic demolition and clearing of these dangerous structures, according to local residents. This situation has left the local population increasingly concerned about their safety, as they continue to live among potentially hazardous buildings without adequate support for their removal or rehabilitation.
