According to local sources and a representative from Kanbalu District Battalion 4, two innocent civilians were arrested and killed by the military council forces while returning from a funeral in Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region, on April 13. The bodies of the victims were later abandoned on the roadside.
The incident occurred when three residents from Khaungta village in Kanbalu Township, including 28-year-old Ko Nay Lin Oo and 39-year-old Ko Chit Naing, encountered a military ambush between Kyaukpyaintaing New Village and Paygyi Village while returning from a funeral. The civilians had purchased five viss (approximately 8 kilograms) of pork and were traveling on two motorcycles. The first motorcycle carried two people and the pork, while the second motorcycle had a single rider.
The military council’s ambush team stopped the leading motorcycle and proceeded to arrest and kill Ko Nay Lin Oo and Ko Chit Naing, while the third person on the following motorcycle managed to escape. According to local residents, the military council forces left the bodies of the two innocent civilians abandoned on the roadside between Kyaukpyaintaing New Village and Paygyi Village. This incident represents another example of the military council’s ongoing violence against civilians in the region.
